OEKO-TEX is an association with over 25 years of experience and is already a leader in responsible consumerism . It is present in over 85 countries and is made up of 18 authorized institutes. AITEX is the only institute in Spain accredited to issue the OEKO-TEX certificate. Now, what is this certificate for and how is it awarded? It's important to keep in mind that the legal requirements and rules governing these certifications are constantly changing . However, this system is always up-to-date in this regard and adapts its processes to new regulations. The OEKO-TEX certification is intended for the textile and leather industries . Of course, it's clear that any label awarded with the OEKO-TEX mark follows high quality standards that apply worldwide. These standards will be the same in the 85 countries mentioned above where the OEKO-TEX certification is valid. To be awarded one of these labels, each garment must be examined using a series of verification criteria, documentary studies, and analysis of samples of the materials used in its manufacture. After the actual sampling and examination, the results are evaluated and it is determined whether or not certain garments can be certified with an OEKO-TEX certificate. Buying clothes with these labels guarantees and reassures us that they have been manufactured sustainably, taking care of the planet and the environment . Furthermore, they adhere to very high quality standards that give us the confidence we need before wearing a garment, especially if it's suitable for the little ones in the house.

How many types of OEKO-TEX certifications are there?

The OEKO-TEX association was founded in 1992 and has since added various certifications tailored to market needs. This also offers many more companies the opportunity to obtain an OEKO-TEX certificate. None is superior to another, and all cover each and every production process. Here are the different types: certificado OEKO-TEX

STANDARD 100 Certified

This certification is intended for textiles that undergo testing for harmful substances. This certification would demonstrate that the method of manufacturing and crafting a garment is chemical-free and does not pose any harm to the skin or health. STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX is one of the most widely used labels in the world , and is the one that every product in all Abanderado lines bears. To achieve this, garments undergo testing for more than 300 harmful substances in neutral laboratories that have nothing to do with the brand or the association. Within this STANDARD 100 certification , up to four groups can be seen :
  • Products that are suitable for babies and children up to three years old.
  • Items that may be in direct contact with the skin, such as underwear and bed sheets.
  • Other garments that do not have direct contact with the skin, such as jackets and coats.
  • Decorative materials such as tablecloths, curtains, cushion covers, furniture covers, etc.

MADE IN GREEN Certified

The MADE IN GREEN label lets consumers know they are consciously consuming products made and manufactured in an environmentally and socially responsible manner . To obtain this OEKO-TEX certification, not only the type of product is analyzed, but also the raw materials used, as well as the production processes and locations. It could be said that this is one of the most comprehensive labels available , as it covers many processes and requires having previously obtained STANDARD 100 and STeP.

LEATHER STANDARD Certificate

This is a certification specifically designed for leather and leather garments . Products made with these materials can be tested at any point in the process. They also guarantee that the product is free of harmful substances that could irritate the skin or other health. As with STANDARD 100, they are divided into four groups, which are the same as those mentioned in their respective sections.

STeP Certificate

The OEKO-TEX STeP certification ensures that companies implement environmentally friendly production processes, improve health, safety, and enhance working conditions in a responsible manner . There are six modules that control the requirements for obtaining this certificate . They are: health and safety, environmental performance, social responsibility, environmental management, and quality and chemical management.

ECO PASSPORT Certificate

A certificate that guarantees that textile and leather manufacturers offer products treated with chemicals that are ecologically safe for humans , while also being environmentally friendly.

DETOX TO ZERO Certificate

It evaluates the wastewater and sludge used in textile manufacturing . All of this helps move toward greener chemistry. This eliminates hazardous chemicals and benefits companies that want to make their commitment to sustainability public. As you can see, choosing garments with one of these labels, like Abanderado underwear, guarantees you 're wearing clothes that are safe for your health and the planet . The OEKO-TEX certification has established itself as a benchmark in the textile industry. It guarantees that products labeled with this certification meet high safety and sustainability standards. Adopting and promoting the use of textiles with the independent OEKO-TEX certification not only protects the health of consumers, but also contributes to a more sustainable and responsible future in the fashion industry .
